Saj Cherian is Director of Market Development at Virgin Mobile USA, the wireless joint venture between SprintNextel and the Virgin Group.
He currently leads the company's New Services team, which has recently launched two new businesses in mobile advertising and mobile payments. Sugar Mama , the new advertising service, allows Virgin Mobile's coveted base of youth to earn airtime in their spare time for engaging with like-minded brands, online and on the phone. Stash , the company's prepaid Visa card and initial foray into mobile payments, enables Virgin Mobile users to earn airtime rewards for their everyday spend, receive wireless alerts for card activity, and make peer-to-peer payments. He also led the development of Day2Day , the company's second and most profitable wireless voice offer, which has attracted over a million subscribers in less than one year.
Previously, Mr. Cherian was a management consultant at McKinsey & Company, Inc., where he advised technology and telecommunications firms in the United States , Europe, and Latin America on marketing, business building, and corporate strategy. He also worked in the investment banking arm of Lehman Brothers in London and served in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for International Affairs at the U.S. Department of the Treasury. A Marshall scholar, he earned an M.Phil. in European Politics and Society from the University of Oxford, Lincoln College and an A.B. from Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School for Public and International Affairs. He is currently a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and serves on its Committee on Corporate Affairs. |
